McGuinness knows how to do many things, and turning out page after page of jaw-dropping action is probably his top talent. If you want action, then you’ve come to the right place. Don’t worry, JJJ doesn’t look like Man-At-Arms with a crew cut, he draws everybody as they should be portrayed. The particular artist for this issue is somebody that everybody loves, Ed McGuinness! Ed learned how to draw from looking at Masters of the Universe action figures, and it shows on every page. It’s not a funny book, but the overall feel of the book is light-hearted. Right off the bat, Wells hits you with some fun stuff from there, it doesn’t stop. But that’s NOT the case here, as this book is gonna be the one that’s gonna put a smile on your face this week when you pick your stack from the comic store. He can still pull off a “fun” book, but his style lends itself to more somber things. The previous issues with Spider-Man legend John Romita, Jr have had elements of humor and lightness, but the overall tone has been darker than in recent times, which fits JRJR to a T. It’s with this issue, in particular, that you can tell that Wells is a writer who writes for his artist. This mega-issue, written by series writer Zeb Wells, is like a Keebler cookie-uncommonly good. In fact, things have never been more exciting for the web-slinger. You’d think after 900 issues that things for Spidey might’ve grown stale, but you’d be wrong.
